TRANS-SEASONAL SKINCARE TIPS FOR GLOWING SKIN

Erratic temperatures, central heating and lower air humidity can all have an effect on our skin, leaving us with a dull and dry complexion. Here are our top tips on how to keep your skin glowing during the change of seasons.

Vitamin D Supplements

In the winter we have less access to Vitamin D as we spend more time indoors and are always covered up in layers. Having sufficient vitamin D in the skin helps to minimise acne, and indirectly boost skin elasticity, stimulate collagen production, enhance radiance, and lessen lines and the appearance of dark spots. It’s worth continuing with vitamin D supplements in Winter and Autumn and then reducing intake in the Spring, with a break in the Summer

Wear SPF (yes, even when it’s not sunny!)

We cannot stress the importance of wearing SPF every day even if it’s cloudy and /or raining. UVA light rays come through clouds and glass and can cause premature ageing and hyper pigmentation so it is essential to apply an SPF of 30 or higher before leaving the house.

Switch up your cleanser

If your skin is feeling dry or flaky with the change of seasons, try switching your regular foaming cleanser for a creamier, gentle cleanser that won’t leave your skin feeling stripped of all oils. Opt for a cleansing balm as they leave a layer of moisture on your skin and you’ll notice the difference in no time.

Exercise

We know, it’s so much harder to have the motivation to exercise when it’s cold or wet. If the weather is putting you off getting to the gym, do a 20 minute workout at home in the morning to get your blood circulation going and your skin will look a lot more alive.

Double up on moisturiser

For those of you that naturally have dry skin, trade in your regular moisturiser for something richer and creamier that doesn’t absorb as fast. Try using facial oils in your night time routine to help lock in more moisture. You can always add in a drop or two of your favourite oil (I like rosehip for mature skin and jojoba for younger skin) to your normal moisturiser to make it even more hydrating.

Increase your fruit and veg intake

It’s so easy to fall into bad eating habits in the winter - we’re all guilty of it. As warmer weather is on its way, try to swap out your naughty evening snack for berries and citrus fruits. Berries are full of antioxidants and they are sweet enough to kill your sugar cravings!

Regular treatments

The cooler months can often be a better time for more invasive treatments as there is less potential sun exposure post treatment.

Deeper peel treatments are often best done in Autumn or Winter if possible.

It’s also worth having a hydrating facial or using sheet masks at home to increase skin’s moisture. Add in some facial massage to help improve circulation.

Exfoliating the skin is important in the colder months as well, particularly if skin is feeling dry, as this can help prevent build up of skin cells that can make skin look dull. Try an at home exfoliator or a light peel based medi-facial.
